To keep up with the global trend of environmentalism, Taiwan has created the Environmental Science & Technology Park, as it seeks to enhance the development of its green industry, create a resource-recycling oriented society and take part in the international eco market. Taiwan’s Environmental Science & Technology Park is designed to provide an environment where “industries mutually benefit each other, share information and attenuate risks” as well as seek the development of advanced technologies involving the regeneration of resources, eco-friendly technologies, and ecological industries. The Park has been seeking partners with other world-class eco tech enterprises in its efforts to become a model eco park that produces minimum pollution, high value added services or products without sacrificing manufacturing, living standards and the environment. Under the idea of “sustainable development” proposed by the Executive Yuan and “zero waste” by the EPA (Environmental Protection Administration), the construction of Taiwan’s first Environmental Science & Technology Park was approved by the EPA, and established on March 11, 2003.
The icons of the Park are the Environmental Technology Building and its associated Pilot Plants. Backed up by its R&D capacity, the Park intends to attract advanced environmental industries, encourage private investment and boost economic development to realize its ultimate goals of sustainable industrial and township development. Located in Gangshan Township, Kaohsiung County, the Park is expected to accommodate a maximum of 120 enterprises; and reach an output value of NT$ 18 billion, with 8,000 job opportunities.
